JOHN R. SCHLEITER

John R. Schleiter is a shareholder with Fisher Kanaris, P.C.  Mr. Schleiter received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1993 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  In 1996, Mr. Schleiter earned his Juris Doctor degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois. While at John Marshall, Mr. Schleiter successfully participated in the moot court honors program. 

After graduation from law school, Mr. Schleiter became a member of the bar in the State of Illinois and was admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois as well as the Eastern District of Wisconsin. He has also been admitted to practice in numerous jurisdictions throughout the United States pro hac vice. Mr. Schleiter is a member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals and The Chicago Bar Association. 

Mr. Schleiter has focused his practice on litigation, and he represents the interests of corporations and insurance companies as both plaintiffs and defendants in cases across the United States and abroad.  Mr. Schleiter also provides counsel to domestic and foreign corporations on a broad range of corporate law matters. 

Mr. Schleiter’s litigation experience includes extensive involvement in all phases of complex, high profile, multi-million dollar cases.  Exemplar plaintiff cases arise out of product failures, fires, and explosions which resulted in extensive damage to both property and business interests and involve the analysis of complex tort, contractual, and Uniform Commercial Code issues.  Mr. Schleiter has successfully resolved cases resulting in seven-figure recoveries for his clients.  Exemplar defense cases involve class actions, construction defect cases, product liability cases, and commercial litigation matters.  Mr. Schleiter has successfully defended his clients in cases involving thousands of parties wherein hundreds of millions of dollars in damages are claimed.  Mr. Schleiter prides himself on being able to methodically and effectively counsel and advise his clients as they work their way through potentially treacherous complex litigation.  He is well-versed in the amicable resolution of matters through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, including the American Arbitration Association and Inter-Company Arbitration.

Recent publications by Mr. Schleiter include an article entitled Subrogation Arising out of Catastrophic Weather Events - Is God Solely to Blame, which appeared in the winter 2004-2005 issue of Subrogator magazine, a publication of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals; Spreading the Word, an article which appeared in the Fall 2005 issue of Subrogator; and The Policy Payment: What Does it Actually Mean, which appeared in the Fall 2006 issue of Subrogator.

Recent presentations by Mr. Schleiter include Getting Past The Gatekeeper, Daubert & Its Progeny, at the NASP 2006 Litigation Skills Conference; a presentation on Trial Cross Examination of the Adverse Expert at the NASP 2007 Litigation Skills Conference; and a presentation on Ethical Issues Involved in Litigation at the NASP 2007 National Conference.  Mr. Schleiter was also the chairperson for the NASP 2008 Litigation Skills Conference and the Property Track Leader for the NASP 2009 Litigation Skills Conference, a conference focusing on litigation skills and techniques.

Mr. Schleiter's community involvement includes sitting on the Board of Directors of the Ray Graham Association, an organization that supports and works with people with disabilities.
